Turning Uphill Battles into Landscape Victories: Project Highlight

We love a good challenge, especially when we can step back and see how the project has transformed a yard. It’s one of the best parts of our jobs.

Last month we highlighted a custom outdoor fireplace project and wanted to continue this series of project highlights to show you more real-life examples of what we can do for your home or business.

Recently, we completed a project on Green Mountain in Huntsville for the Garber family that included retaining walls, driveway space, and several landscaping beds.

The Value of Retaining Walls

When people think about landscaping services, most people’s first thoughts are about flower beds, pruning and hedging, and other seasonal displays. While retaining walls are a lesser-considered feature, they have several benefits, in addition to adding curb appeal to your home.

Retaining walls are especially valuable if you have sloping or elevated yard spaces. Depending on the degree of the slope, you may be able to level the ground. However, this can be an expensive and inefficient use of a great space that just needs a little TLC.

Flooding and soil erosion are prevalent problems in any landscape, whether your property is entirely flat or on a hill. Retaining walls provide additional support for the soil and reduce the speed at which water travels on the surface to prevent erosion.

Retaining walls can also increase the functional space that your yard offers. You can use these walls to create entertainment spaces, add seating, or even showcase more of your favorite plants, all while increasing the athletic appeal of the front or back of your home.

Best of all, these walls can boost the value of your home. Studies have shown that homeowners will pay more for homes with appealing landscapes, which often lead to a complete return on investment for all the outdoor home projects you have completed. Retaining walls can turn an intimidating hill into a space to admire and entertain!

Our Project in Green Mountain

The client work we did in Green Mountain came to many of these same conclusions. They had a space that had enormous potential, but they weren’t sure how to make the most of the slope in their front yard. When we met with them, we were able to paint a picture that answered all their questions!

It was a challenging job because we were installing walls on the slope of the hill to create usable space in the yard for both landscaping and a driveway. But at the same time, it was amazing to see how the yard looked better and better each day! When we got the walls up, it changed the look of the entire yard.

After we finished, the Garber family expressed how impressed they were and how they loved how the landscaping made them feel like they were at a whole new house! They said, “We would like to thank you and your guys at Acre Group for doing such a fantastic job installing our retaining wall, walkway, landscaping, and lighting. As a commercial contractor, we understand the effort it takes to not only do a project like this but to do it right -- and you guys did that and more. We started out with a rough vision and you were able to understand what we wanted and bring it all together with a finished product that exceeded our expectations. By the way, we love all of the compliments we are receiving from our friends and neighbors!”

We loved working with this family and would be honored to work with them on any future projects!
